Student comments from TA evaluation
forms:
Winter 2001 – Econ 101, Advanced Microeconomic
Theory (I was head TA)
-
“Becky Acosta was a great T.A. Excellent communication skill, section
discussions were always well-done & organized. Explained things
clearly & efficiently.”
-
“Becky is the greatest TA I’ve ever had. She is very knowledgeable
about the material and, … she was able to teach it clearly and in a way
that was easy to understand. She was always helpful and friendly
during office hours and really improved the way I learned the course material.”
-
“Becky is an excellent TA. Her notes that she posted on the web made
THE
difference for me in understanding the material. Always prepared
and knowledgeable about the topics…Overall, excellent TA.”
-
“Becky’s notes on the website were very helpful. She taught us the
graphs while [Prof.] Murphy gave examples of theory. I found her
discussions worthwhile…”
-
“You helped clarify a lot of points that the professor was shady about.
Great job!”
-
“Becky explains the theories clearly and effectively!”
-
Prof. Murphy had me teach one of the lectures
while he was out of town. He sent me an e-mail saying I “got
a uniformly very positive response” about my lecture from his honors section.
-
One of my sections was right after lecture. Not long after I gave
the lecture described above, I received this e-mail from the professor:
“Becky: could you please move to a larger classroom. Students
are leaving my class early to ensure getting a place in your classroom.
Prof M.” Many students had started coming to my section in addition
to the ones actually enrolled because they liked the way I taught the lecture
and sections were often standing room only.
Fall 1999 - Econ 104, Managerial Economics
Evaluations are were not available for this quarter due to a vendor
error in processing the forms.
Winter 1999 - Econ 130, Public Finance
(This was the first time this professor had ever had a TA for this class.
I was the only TA for this class.)
-
"Becky did a great job! She really expanded on course material and
mad sure the student had a thorough understanding of it. She was
always
very accommodating and very willing to help the students both inside and
outside of class. I definitely benefitted from having a TA for this
course and highly recommend keeping them. I probably would have had
a much harder time getting through the course without Becky's help."
-
"Very helpful. Clarified course lecture material. Thanks."
-
"The TA was very helpful in expanding on the topics from class. She
really helped me in preparations for the exams."
-
"Becky is a great T.A. She has a good knowledge of the material and
explains it well. She is very helpful and was willing to meet with
me outside of office hours because I had class during office hours.
The discussion sections were very helpful in understanding the course material
and I would say that the sections helped me raise my grade at least one
full grade."
-
"Great T.A. Very helpful"
-
"TA section was very helpful; She put the abstract ideas of the
Professor into a more concrete, understandable format. She was very
helpful and made arrangements to meet outside of her office hours."
-
"Becky has been very helpful in expanding and enabling us to better understand
the course material. Thank you Becky."
Fall 1998 - Econ 130, Public Finance
-
"A very knowledgable T.A. She helped a lot. I enjoyed class
and she explains things well."
-
"Becky was very helpful and concerned about us understanding the material"
-
"Miss Acosta was a very knowledgable TA who explained well difficult concepts.
She was also friendly and took the time to help us out."
E-mail from student in Econ
1 class I TA-ed, Fall 1997:
"Becky,
Thank you for all of your
help throughout the whole quarter. You had been a very good TA, and I understood
the concepts much better in your session. Do you know which sessions
you will be teaching for econ 11? Thank you."
E-mail from student I tutored for Econ 11, Winter
2000:
"Hi Becky...you tutored me earlier on this quarter for Econ 11...Well,
it really helped my understanding of the material...One of the most valuable
tools you gave me was that worksheet that had Marshallian demand on the
right side and Hicksian demand on the left and it broke down both really,
really well!....."
Inside of a thank you card from student
in my Econ 101 class, Winter 2001. I also tutored her in IO theory
and tactics Spring 2001.
